August Drop: Turn your old agent logs into Dosu knowledge

Configure Dosu from chat, understand its impact in the app, and find out what your agents read.

Welcome back to the monthly Dosu Drop! One of the hardest days with any knowledge tool is day one, when your Library is empty and you're still setting up your knowledge base. This past month, we created some tools to help with that specific set of problems.

Backfill your knowledge base from your agent logs

Think about what your team spent time on last week. What features did you work on? Which environment variables do you need to set for your local builds? Chances are, the answers to questions like these are sitting idle in your team's Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor logs.

Our new log-to-dosu-knowledge skill reads those logs and writes what it finds to your Dosu Library. You can install it with our Dosu CLI:

npx @dosu/cli skill install

Then, you can tell your coding agent…

Bootstrap my knowledge with Dosu

Dosu reads your 50 most recent sessions and writes knowledge it finds to your Dosu Library. When it's done, Dosu gives you an HTML report of the knowledge it captured, plus an estimate of the tokens you won't spend on capturing it again.

Configure Dosu with Dosu

Now, you can configure Dosu with…Dosu! Try asking for things like…

Add the backend repo to the Docs library

Turn on Monitor for docs/** in the frontend repo

Switch the GitHub agent to the Support library

You can configure agent guidelines, Library settings, review timeouts, connected Sources, and Monitor this way. Dosu can read your current configuration, show you exactly what it wants to change, and wait for you to confirm (admin and owner roles only).

Analytics is front and center

The MCP section of Dosu Analytics, showing 1,049 tool calls over seven days and a breakdown of calls by tool.

When you log into Dosu, you'll see Analytics instead of Dosu's in-app chat. Most of our customers ask about how their agents are using their knowledge base, so we made that the first thing you see. Analytics shows your cache hit rate, how many calls your coding agents make to Dosu, and which of Dosu's MCP tools they use.

What knowledge did Dosu use?

The Session knowledge card on its References tab, listing the notes and documents Dosu drew on, scoped to the feat/oauth2-migration branch.

When your agent wraps up a session, Dosu shows a Session Knowledge card listing the notes it wrote and the sources it read. It renders right in Codex, Claude Desktop, and ChatGPT, so you can see what Dosu contributed without leaving your agent.

If there's something you want Dosu to read or write, come talk with us on Discord.

That's all for this month!

Until next time,
