Checkmate at the Dosu Office: A Chess Night for AI Builders
We hosted 30+ developers at our San Francisco office for a blitz chess tournament. Players ranged from a titled FIDE Master to people learning the game for the first time.

On Thursday, September 24, we hosted a chess night at our San Francisco office. We wanted to bring together AI developers who care about how agents use knowledge, and give them a competitive game to talk over.
More than 30 people came to play. Many were senior AI developers and engineers from companies like GitHub, Tesla, and LanceDB. People came to talk about how agents remember and how teams build knowledge that lasts. Chess gave everyone an easy way to start those conversations.
A three-minute Swiss-style blitz tournament
We ran a Swiss-style blitz tournament with three minutes per player. The room had players rated 2300, 2200, 2100, and 2000, players in the 1900s and 1700s, and people still learning the game. By the end of the night, the two undefeated players were the two highest-rated players in the room, at 2200 and 2300, and they met in the final. The FIDE Master won.

What stood out most was how the highest-rated players made time for lower-rated ones, playing them and teaching along the way. We want Dosu's community to work the same way, with people building their own knowledge and sharing it.
Three minutes turned out to be a little short, especially for beginners. Next time we'll give each player five minutes.

Thanks to everyone who came out. We'll run more chess nights.
